About This Work

Ireland is known for its lush shades of green and dramatic, fast shifting skies. This painting with rich, deep colours is about a quiet time, a reflective time when light goes down and night time is coming. It evokes times gone by. The rich, deep violet sky and green grass contrast with the small copse of trees or Fairy Rath on the raised hillock. These places can be found dotted throughout Ireland, often ancient forts that are left to the 'Shee'or faeries from the otherworld. They grow with abandon knowing the hand of man will not interfere... This 20 x 20 X 1.75 oil on deep edged canvas is ready to hang. The edges, painted white, are 1.75" deep so framing is not required. All my paintings are varnished to add a protective coat against dust. Only the highest quality archival fine art grade oil paints are used on the surface gessoed and prepared by myself. My finished pieces do not mirror a subject matter but are a representation of emotions felt in a specific time or place. Often the fleeting effect of a particular light and colour in nature are held somewhere in my visual memory. At some point, this takes centre stage on the painting I am working on. It may appear during the process of creation without an obvious connection to the subject matter at hand and yet, it adds another dimension, a particular atmosphere. These processes are ways and means by which I express my connection to nature in all its richness and variety.
