SERIES: DREAMSCAPES. "Swimmer in the Night" is actually a humble ode to a famous (who knows?) short story ala Americana: "The Swimmer" by John Cheever. That story begins with a tipsy man (Ned Merrill) swimming all the neighborhood swimming pools one late afternoon in the 1960s..... As time goes by in his afternoon pool hopping, the reality changes to the surreal. Evening comes and the story delves into grand allegory to which all tales must go if, if they claim immortality! I extended Ned's journey well into the night. Perhaps his upper middle-class suburbs are all gone now. Taken over by McMansions and junior McMansions.... But the night still remains, and a distant city under the sickle moon. Maybe there will be another "swimmer" continuing that journey well into the future of Suburbia! To find her own truths, her own Americana! Multilayered, organized, time-deferred oil painting. Though the medium is "pure oil", the inlay and relief are unique and sculptural. This work is prototypical of my style. The frame is carefully designed for elegance and simplicity. I take immense pain and pride to craft the perfect perimeter for my works.
