Last Night at the Bar
Hand Printed Work, Screen,
Mono print of a sketch done in a strip club. In this one you can see the one girl about to punch the hansom boy in the middle who is chatting up the girl on the right.
I used the printing process as part of the image making technique. This is an example where I brake the rules of printing.
Traditionally with dry point printing one scratches the line drawing onto a relatively malleable surface. In this case I used Perspex. (this is also why you only get one print out of the plate, the process of running the plate through the press flattens the place and it will not hold enough ink for a second printing) One then pushes ink into the scratches and wipes off the rest of the surface.
In this case, I did that but then went over it again, dragging the ink onto the unscratched surface. Leaving it on the naked plane and encouraging the natural streaking. Like the darkness of the night and the textures of the club are inherit the ink, leaving its mark on the memory.
