I love to paint, I always have. But at 16 I discovered a deeper appreciation of art and beauty while working during vacations for an art and antique dealer. Spending each day surrounded by gorgeous paintings and fine furniture made me realize that beautiful surroundings elevate us – making our lives fuller, richer. I learned that colors on even a small canvas can brighten a large room – I discovered that arriving home and seeing a painting that makes you happy can make your whole home a happier, warmer place.
I never left the art world after that first job. At 18 I moved to NYC to study at Christie's and over the last 15 years I’ve either been painting art, purchasing art for others or collecting art for myself. That experience has made me believe that art is absolutely and completely personal. You don't need a degree to tell you what is art, you don't need a dealer or a collector. Art should be about what moves you, what makes you look and want to keep on looking. We should all find pieces of art that we love and want to live with, art that feeds something inside us, art that makes a house our home.
I prefer to paint in the abstract because I believe my voice should not be the voice you most loudly hear. I want my art to connect with something inside you. Like an exquisite piece of music or a perfect meal, art lifts us up and makes us feel wonderful, but the difference is that paintings last for lifetimes, giving us pleasure over and over again. I hope that my paintings, hanging on the walls of your home, give you the same pleasure that I found in creating them.
