About This Work

A dynamic tower of bold, multi faceted redwood components which intertwine as they thrust upward through a series of undulating burl counterparts. The sculpture twists and spirals aggressively from a massive driftwood base towards the pointed apex, representing a projection of aspirations. The smooth, angular geometric forms interact gracefully with their contorted burl counterparts producing deep contrasts. This powerful abstract sculpture exudes an abundance of visual energy with intriguing expressionistic characteristics. This abstract redwood sculpture has been composed with individual redwood burls which have been carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further enhance the forms. The wood components have been sprayed with a durable clear oil and hand rubbed, producing a matt finish which enhances all the natural colors and exotic grain patterns. Each sculpture is totally unique and cannot be duplicated. The natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized. All sculptures are signed and numbered by Daryl Stokes and include an artist certificate of authenticity.
