About This Work

Why do we love ocean art so much? Because we can’t always be there, toes in the sand, but we can stare into a painting and feel like we are. Through a rainy Seattle winter, I dreamt of just this, dipping into the buoyant Dead Sea and relaxing in its salty waters, and staring through the clear gently lapping waves. This moved me to live in that moment through art and create that depth and immersion with resin. I did this working in multiple layers to build the feel of a sandy ground with metallic accents peaking out where rocks lie and outcroppings form, to a middle layer of warm clear waters, and finally, a top layer of lapping soft waves gently peeling into the shore in an undisturbed and barely perceptible way. - 36in x 24in x 1.5in - Resin on Wood - Poplar Wood Treated Sides with Infinity Pool Effect - Ready to Hang - Comes with Artist Letter & Certificate of Authenticity What is Resin? Resin is commonly known as epoxy. Epoxy resin has a brilliant glass-like finish and is used for its durability in surfboards, boats, even counters, and flooring! I use similar techniques to the surfboard crafters where I mix the two parts resin, starting a 1-hour timer I must work quickly and expertly off of hundreds of hours of experience to pigment the resin, pour it, and painting with it using a knife and a blowtorch before it starts to permanently cure. Each layer needs 72 hours to fully cure and for depth, I use multiple layers.
