| Artist Statement: | “My paintings are not visual stories. What you see is my temperament.” My work veers toward abstraction, suggesting deconstructed representation. As a landscape painter, my work is not about representing a place as it really is, but more a feeling of being in that place. I’m inspired by big skies and wide-open spaces. I paint the atmosphere of those places. These spatial landscapes did not come from my direct experience, yet they are places I am intimately familiar with and know well. The paintings develop on an organic level, and come from a deep place within me. I work from the inside out -- from a “memory” of something never experienced. What I have to say is an emotional response to inner and outer landscapes. Ginger Marshall is a traditionally trained New York City-based artist and is part of an emerging group of artists who draw from the principals of post-modern painting, incorporating a diverse range of disciplines to create an exciting new abstract language. |
