| Artist Statement: | My art work begins with “How will I observe and re-create the figure?” I am interested in a figure because I want my paintings to tell people’s memories and nostalgia in our daily life. I am constantly trying to find new dreams. The process of my artwork begins with “Conceptual Portraiture”. It comes from observing humans and images from nature. These various experiences have a strong influence on me. Therefore, I hope to touch you quietly yet deeply through my paintings. Also, I like using various techniques of expression. The techniques that I focus on are the combination of expressive brushwork, colors and compositions with light and shadow. For me, it is very important to look back at how the old masters composed their figures and their environments in the painting, and how they designed the colors to bring all elements into harmony. Some painters who have influenced me are Rembrandt (1606-1669), 19th impressionism artists, and Tomas Wilmer Dewing (1851~1938). I believe that by studying those influences, ideas and techniques, I will be able to create a meaningful, cohesive and beautiful body of work. |
