Artist Statement: Roberto Bonifaz is a self-taugh painter. His style is highly influenced by the work of Roberto Domingo, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Amedeo Modigliani. Bonifaz is also an devoted student of Neolithic cave paintings. His use of media is dramatically varied, going from red clay and oil to pastel and ink.

His career as a painter started with an exhibition in 2000. Since that successful show many of his paintings have been sold to collectors in several countries and even multinational institutions. There is a large collection of inks held in England and Spain.

One of Bonifaz’s favorite subjects is representing the art of bullfighting. He captures the movement of the animal and the matador with minimal use of detail. An ability he has developed by drawing this topic since his childhood. However, he is also quite fond of portraits, nudes and horses; themes he finds inherently intertwined.
Exhibitions: GALERIA SILVIA Y MERCEDES REYES, 2001
PLAZA DE TOROS, JESUS DEL GRAN PODER, 2008
CLUB TAURINO DE QUITO, 2007
CASA DAMIAN, PERMANENT COLLECTION
