| Artist Statement: | Art has always been part of my life. During the years and the numerous vocational courses: life drawing, painting, sculpture, print making, bronze casting, ceramics and digital media. I concluded that the creative side of me needed to be taken on the next level, so I obtained a B.A. in fine art from the University of arts london. I must say that those years have been the most inspiring and joyful time of my artistic life and growth. Art hunted me since I can recall, a sort of love and hate relationship, but time reaffirmed and stenthened my choice for Fine art. I need to be free from briefs and dead lines, patterns repetition or routines. At the moment I am researching about Fibonacci and the golden section. The inspiration came from found shells and coral on Ko-Samui island in Thailand. For my last project I've associate the book I was reading by Italo Calvino " Invisible Cities", and the shells. I tried to create scenes, in my sketch books using collages. Meditating on the imaginary realities of those unreal cities. How can a place be recreated in our memory, in relation with the experience of that particular instant. I find it intriguing, how the present is transformed into past, and how the mind translates time, when we will recall it in the future. Recently I am enjoying painting and printing on fabrics, experimenting on a variety of surfaces and discovering the different reactions of the chosen medium. I am combining my hobby/passion for photography with paint, by transferring the photocopied photographs, using acetone, on a canvas. I am pleased with the results so far. The contrast between the printed photos and the watery colors, seems to create depth in the image. I've started this wonderful journey through mythologic ancient civilizations of Babylonian, Persian empire. I am in the process to bring it all together: the Fibonacci rule applied to the shells, the exotic cities from the book and the ancient middle east culture. For my latest work I was inspired by Sigmar Polke tendency to accumulate a range of different mediums within one canvas, his method of multilayered images gives an hallucination/dreams effect to the scenes. I've also looked up at Terry Winters work. His use of colors and forms give the images a sense of organic abstract, almost figurative, due I believe to his source of inspiration. It's difficult for me to talk about art. I feel art. I can only say that effects me on a visceral level, simply a human instinct from within. The urge to express myself freely, a way of communicating my ideas. Rosa Migliardi |
