| Artist Statement: | I'm a landscape and still life painter who loves to paint outside whenever possible! My observations of light and shadow as they play with the objects around me are starting to burst forth. The constant change of color and light from season to season as well as they say in real estate... location, location, location. The play of light and color from mid-morning to early evening. The soft blue light of Vermont to the bright hot light of Colorado, the evening colors of autumn as they caress the barns of Kingsville to the stark winter light on broken trees and buildings. My excitement is like a kid in a candy store, going from one case to the other looking, and forever tasting those delightful morsels. This is what I seek, to capture the essence through careful observation, study with small color studies and drawings to completed pieces I hope are worthy. But just like that kid in that candy store, my tastes become dulled from one or two candies, and I need to move on to other delectable snacks, knowing I'll be back to taste those others again with influences from the new tastes. Pushing the color, light and compositions I observe are a never ending cornucopia of visual delight, I hope not only for me but for all who see! I've come to realize that several of Leonardo's quotes live with in me now one being "I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do." and my favorite "Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art." So I continue to fed my spirit with observations of light and shadow and apply them to canvas. |
