|Artist Statement:||I've always been attracted to characters. I think it's because I grew up in a boarding house run by my Greek immigrant family.
I'm fascinated by how people walk, talk and just appear. Funny, I can never remember a song lyric, but every word the bus driver with the bulbous runny nose spewed to the college kid on the 61C, is burned into my brain forever.
Over the last 20 years, I have recreated many of the characters I have encountered(and most of my family) in videos, on stage, on radio, as sculpture, as puppets and in drawings and painting.
It began years ago when I was a student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. I realized that in order for me to truly understand a subject that I was exploring - to take them in totally - I had to draw them, film them, and act them.
This obsessiveness has led me to: teaching at the Pittsburgh Filmmakers, having my art hang in group shows, hosting a radio program in Cleveland, performing one-man shows, having my films shown at Sundance, Hiroshima International and Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France and producing projects for Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and many others.
My art is a record of my time here on Earth. And on this site I present to you my paintings and drawings. Each one of them is a story, a piece of my journey.
