| Artist Statement: | Collage artist, Kate Newington, is based in Brixton and also spends time on the north coast of Cornwall. Photos of surfers, boats and the Cornish coastline are references for her images. She uses fragments of weather worn paper litter found on the street (there’s plenty in Brixton) along with scraps cut and torn from magazines, wrapping paper, catalogues and junkmail. “I like to recycle bits of the debris of everyday life that you find ‘just by chance’ wherever you go”. Trained in London with a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Illustration, her three favourite artists are Robert Rauschenberg, Kurt Schwitters, and Chuck Close. As well as being commissioned to make portraits in collage, she has also had illustrations published in The Big Issue, the Observer, and Time magazine and has shown work in galleries in London, Rome and St Ives. Her work is available as original artworks or as fine art prints. |
