| Artist Statement: | “It was my intention to be an artist from the very beginning” I am visually stimulated by everything. Patterns, colors, objects, figures, shapes, and life’s aesthetic rhythms draw me in. My eye bolts to the dramatic and the bold. Recently, I have embarked on a series of landscapes/waterscapes, a genre that has eluded me until now. My access in was language. Language allows me to feel the space I am trying to create. I am a true colorist, I see color. My work is inspired by joyfulness. Like the feeling you get when flowers arrive unexpectedly or when you are in the sub-way and someone compliments your coat. Fragments of time that make you smile. I look for this same feeling in my work. I pay homage to the things I love and that draw me in every day. Calligraphy and Language gave me the same strength and the movement allowing me in a very natural way, to go places I have not gone before. Along with the text I have incorporated elements of collage and my own iconic images. I have always used collage in various ways and my recent work shows a new vision, direction, and growth. Through this process I have found an original voice accessing me to landscapes and larger scaled works in a very natural and exciting way. I have traveled through many ways of telling my artistic stories and currently feel I have found the rhythm and clarity for my vision and style. The energy within my new series is taking me on a very exciting journey. |
