| Artist Statement: | Dan Fogel received his MFA from Arizona State University and his BFA from the University of Utah. Fogel is interested in painterly still-life and is known primarily for oil painting and charcoal drawing. In addition, he has spent countless hours studying landscape and the human figure. He is currently residential faculty in the art department, at Mesa Community College, in Arizona. His artwork is widely collected and can be seen in galleries and art fairs throughout the Southwestern US. What Dan says about is own artwork... "I am inspired by the way things look in the world and on my canvas. I want my artwork to first engage the eye and then the mind. Draftsmanship is an essential element of my artwork. If a piece is visually interesting it will lead to further contemplation. My oil paintings are grounded in the tradition of realism but with a contemporary investigation into surface and pictorial space. My compositions invite the viewer to consider metaphorical and psychological interpretations for ordinary objects. Frequently, my subjects serve as symbolic containers occupied by our thoughts and feelings. Description and visual poetry are my intentions." |
