| Artist Statement: | I must confess that my sister, who is a painter, and the books that I have read, had positive effects on me whilst I was trying to improve my photography skills. In 2009 I entered the 'XIX National Photography Competition of Northern Cyprus' for the first time and I was awarded one of the three equal winner's prizes. I am currently continuing with my works mostly by taking black & white, long exposure and square format, nature and structure photographs. Perhaps due to being an islander, the sea has always had a deep emotional connection to my life, and besides, watching the sky and the clouds gives me peace of mind. That is why the sea, coastlines, sky and clouds are what I most love to include in my photographs. For me, photography is all about capturing the emotional impact of the subject and sharing that with others. I get excited when my photographs absorb viewers and give them a sense of being there. For my art works I mostly prefer black & white toning, as I feel this is the best way for me to express my emotions. The reason I generally prefer long exposure is because it slows me down, makes me more silent and enables me to perceive the world better. From my point of view the viewer has total freedom in what to understand or not to understand. I do not think there is only one correct way to interpret the meaning of my photographs. That is why I feel there is no special question that needs to be asked, understood or answered by the viewer. I merely try to express our mysterious world according to my understandings and feelings. It is all up to you whether to like or not, to find peace of mind or not... |
