| Artist Statement: | My Artist Statement By Tracy Mewmaw Art means many things to different people. To some, art is beauty itself. To others, art is pure creativity made manifest. To most artists, art is a process, a more powerful and important undertaking than any finished work that it might produce. For me, art is therapy, a potent medicine that keeps me sane in a crazy world... I aspire to see beauty in things that are overlooked by others. I try to find the truth, the heart, and the soul that is hidden, often in plain sight. My subject matter is as varied as my interests, whims, and inspirations. Whether it is a landscape, a still life, or an abstract photograph, I endeavor to approach my subjects from a new, unfamiliar point of view. My creativity flows from the spring of these fresh perspectives. My goal is to transform the common into the extraordinary, and in this way I keep things new, fresh, and exciting for both myself and my audience. Although I was trained in more traditional forms of art at the KC Art Institute, much of my current work is in the digital realm. An artist learns to use the tools available, and photo processing software is an extremely powerful creative tool. When used by a skilled and trained artisan, amazing results can be achieved. While photography has historically been a means to represent a scene as it appears to the eye, these new digital tools give me, as an artist, the freedom to express not only what I saw, but also what I felt as I captured the image. Through this process, my photography becomes more about creativity than merely the capturing of an image. I begin by creating images, using digital cameras and various specialized lenses. As a first step, I use a basic photo processing application to crop, adjust brightness and contrast, and prepare the image for further refinement. I then work on each piece one at a time, using more advanced software to add texture, color, and depth. Often, I spend several hours or even days on a single work, including additional compositional elements to arrive at the final image you see in print. I print all of my smaller sizes, up to 13 X 19, using the finest inks and paper to ensure the highest quality giclee' prints. Larger works are printed at a local color labthat produces stunning results using state of the art equipment, under my strict supervision. I see a photograph as a window through which one can look to view another world. The camera is my window to the secret garden where beauty and creativity grow and blossom. Through my art, I aspire to open that window to others, to share my secrets and welcome you into my garden... Tracy Mewmaw, Tracy Mewmaw Fine Arts Testamonials: Now that’s above and beyond! I find your photography so intriguingly beautiful. You certainly did not have to do this for me. I sincerely appreciate it and look forward to my next Mewmaw. Again. My sincerest Thank you, Eric Anderton |
