| Artist Statement: | The luminosity of watercolors is what fascinates and draws me to this medium. I like to paint atmospheric watercolors, seldom using the local color of the landscape. I try to achieve a tonalist look and feel to my work, which is why I love painting the light of dawn, sunrise and sunset. I use a limited palette – which varies for each painting – to achieve harmony in my work. I studied painting at the Rhodesian School of Art in what is now Zimbabwe and also with master watercolorist Jerry Stitt. I am a member of the Marin County Watercolor Society and the Marin Society of Artists and take part in their monthly juried exhibitions. I live in Marin County, California which has many unspoiled coastal areas, nature parks and trails that inspire me. All Images © Jean Lurssen, All Rights Reserved. |
