This piece fascinates me because a collector actually chased me down Grant Avenue, Chinatown, for several blocks one evening as I was carrying it to my car. After a studio visit, he selected other pieces. It was one of the moments when I fully comprehended the power my paintings have with other people, that he would do that. Under-layers of a similar motiv tell the story of how lives are of similar construction -- common themes, variant but harmonizing palettes, richly textured from earlier times. |
