Growing up on the coast of Maine there used to be a lot of these old boats laying around, slowly decaying. There was one large ship in particular that ran aground on some rocks and was just left there to disintegrate. This character could either be the salty survivor of a shipwreck, or someone fantasizing about going out to sea, and sitting in this old boat on dry land is the closest they can get.
