It's pretty unusual for me to paint something other than a portrait, though you could make an argument that this is a portrait of tree. There's just something so beautiful and momentary about sunlight slanting through intensely colored fall foliage; you can almost feel the days getting shorter, and it always makes me a little wistful. I tried to capture a moment that makes you stop in your tracks and "be in the moment," while also reminding you that time is passing and everything is moving slowly toward death.
