Southern California artist Kevin Brewerton has created simple vertical color fields in this abstract seascape. The two blues bring the eye towards the slightly undulating off-center dividing line. The wood texture of the panel can be seen beneath the paint. This minimal style painting with surprising detail will have big impact on your walls.

Featured in Real Simple, previous Zatista Featured Artist and five-time world kickboxing champion, Kevin Brewerton, came to fine art unexpectedly. “I grew up hating art,” Brewerton says. “I didn’t understand it. Growing up in a coal mining town taught me that art was only for the rich. I resented it. I thought it was just pretty pictures, empty canvases that anyone could paint. I didn’t realize art is about communication and creating a mirror in which to see one’s self.”
Brewerton’s work imparts a grace and sensitivity that one might not expect to see from a boxer-turned-artist. His broad brush strokes and strong use of color jump right off the canvas at the viewer. If Brewerton’s success at boxing is any indication of his potential in the studio, you’ll want to keep your eye on this artist.
